Scorzonera Long Rooted Maxima
Scorzonera Long Rooted Maxima. Commonly known as Black Salsify, this variety delivers heavy yields of very long roots of outstanding for flavour. The long black-skinned roots have a very delicate and subtle oyster flavour, real delicacy. Grows as a very long black tapering root rather like a thin parsnip. Easy to grow. The roots keep well in the ground over winter.
Cultivation Advice Scorzonera Long Rooted Maxima
Sow thinly in 1cm drills 30cm apart from April-Jul.
Deep stone free soil preferred.
Do not sow on recently manured soil.
Thin to 10cm apart.
The thinning’s do not transplant well.
Keep weed free and water during very dry periods
Harvest from Aug as required through till Mar.
Flavour improves after last frost.
