Strawberry Alpine Yellow Wonder

Strawberry Alpine Yellow Wonder. An unusual Alpine Strawberry producing creamy yellow fruit in abundance all summer on 6-8” plants. The fruit is considered far superior in taste and fragrance to its red cousins and much sought after in finer restaurants. In 2007 trials this variety was deemed one of the most productive of all Alpine varieties. One the best aspects of this variety are that birds do not seem attracted to the fruits due to the colour. Ideal as a border plants or for use as ground cover. They propagate primarily from seed rather than runners as their larger cousins. Hardy Perennial (OP).

Cultivation Advice Strawberry Alpine Yellow Wonder

Strawberry Seeds germinate best after cold treatment. Place the sealed packet in the freezer for 2-4 weeks. Let them warm up slowly.
Sow late February onwards in seed trays or pots and only very lightly cover to hide seed. Keep moist and semi-shady.
Ideal germination temperature 65°f. When the plants get their second set of true leaves, thin them out, leaving three to four inches between plants. Or, replant them into separate containers.
Once the plants are big enough to plant in the garden, remember to introduce them to the outdoors gradually.
Do not plant strawberries where potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, or raspberries have grown within three years.
